CYC Lighted Boat Parade 2008

The annual Commonwealth Yacht Club lighted boat parade was held May 24th, Memorial Day weekend.  There were 16 entries with boats ranging from 22' to 120' in length.

The parade started near the breakwater to Kentucky Dam Marina, proceeded across Kentucky Lake to Lighthouse Landing then through the canal to Green Turtle Bay.

The Ketter family played a big role parade night. Fleet Captain Dave Rittenhouse directed Richard Ketter in the CYC Fleet Taxis to get all the boats identified and lined up.  Kim Ketter in Halcyon led the group on a safe parade path.  Then Robert Ketter sang the National Anthem as Halcyon passed by the judge's stand.

A band on Huey's Island provided a wide range of music for all to enjoy as we waited for darkness and during the parade.  Cheers could be heard from those who viewed from the shore at Light House Landing.  There were also several boats lining the channel along with the large group on shore.  The "big horns a blaring" welcome we received from our fellow members as we entered Green Turtle Bay was greatly appreciated.

Thanks to Fleet Captain Dave Rittenhouse for organizing, Laura Thorton of GTB and Kim Kraemer of Grand Rivers Visitor Bureau for getting the word out.  It was their hard work along with all the boaters that helped make the parade a success.

Also a big thank you goes out to Lake Realty and Development for 1st place trophies and Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina for gift certificates.
